Information About Acne Treatment Worcester

Most of the treatment for acne works by reducing quantity of oil that is produced, inflammation of the skin, speeding up turnover of skin cells or fighting infection by bacteria. For most drugs that are used, one should not expect to see positive outcome for the first about eight weeks. The condition may actually worsen before getting better. The moment there is improvement in the symptoms or the medications prescribed are not working, tapering off of the medications is recommended. Tapering is useful in preventing resistance of antibiotics which occurs when they are used for treatment over a long time.

In most cases, oral medications are used together with topical medications. Oral antibiotic use will come with certain side effects, the most common being stomach upsets and dizziness. The sensitivity of the skin to the sun is also increased. Besides, teeth discoloration and reduced bone growth in kids will also be possible effects. In some cases, therapies are used, either alone or in combination.

Light therapy has been used for some time with a level of success. The mode of treatment tends to target bacteria that bring about acne inflammation. Light therapy is done from home or in the office of the doctor. A hand held device is used to perform blue light therapy from home. Sensitivity to light, pain and temporary redness are among the side effects.

There is chemical peel which uses repeated application of chemical solution like salicylic acid. Treatment through chemical peeling is best effective if used in combination with other treatment forms. This therapy is not for people taking oral retinoids. There will be side effects.

The skin specialist will use some special tools for removing whiteheads gently. These are the whiteheads which were never cleared through the use of topical medications. There however is the possibility that scarring will be experienced. The scarring can be handled in various ways and should never be cause for worry.
